Since last Thursday, the following has happened: finished the brick, installed wood laminate flooring, installed all closet shelving, repaired shower tile, installed towel bars and toilet paper holders, installed the gas meter, blew in insulation in the attic, installed one attic door and removed the one I was questioning and installed carpet padding
Here's a small view of the laminate we selected.

The attic door on the other side. Looks like the had to re-cut the hole and repair the drywall. Now the door opens out as I thought it should. The one that was "installed" on the other side is now uninstalled.
They blew in some attic insulation...doesn't look like it would do much...but the house was toasty warm when I took this picture.
